Busy Doing Nothing/Everything

I haven’t written much lately. Not just here but anywhere. I have been busy with other things, like fine-tuning my novel About Charlie for publication (it came out on the 20th of October 2024).

I have also been working on a memoir, well kind of a memoir, but not my memoir… How many times can I say memoir, now it sounds and looks weird. Anyway, I have been working on that, it is a collection of letters that my dad wrote to his brother from the 1970s to the 1990s, until his brother’s death.

My dad was also a writer and his brother was a musician so the one-sided conversations, I think, are interesting. Unfortunately, I don’t have the letters from Dad’s brother to him. There is family stuff in there as well – they were two of six siblings.

I hope to get it published before Christmas. Originally, I typed it up and planned to publish it purely to share with the family, but now I think it may have some legs as an interesting read for other people, like people trying to get their creative work heard or read. My dad’s frustration is very clear and not always kind to the people he contacts. He was a complicated man.

Castle Priory Press which I co-founded with my friend Ruth (another writer), has been keeping me busy as well. We are publishing another children’s book in the next ten days which is very exciting. This does, however, mean that I end up spending time promoting it and Castle Priory Press on social media, instead of doing my own writing.

Then there is my family, all of whom are now adults (my youngest daughter turned eighteen in September)

Here we all are – my husband continues to look like a psychopath, even though he is the least psychopathic of all of us.

We had a big party a week after getting back off holiday, hence the slightly tired eyes! I am also a taxi, cook and all the other mum tropes! They are quite time-consuming at the moment. So, less time for writing.

And, I had to get a part-time job, which is sad as it takes up valuable writing time, but the cost of living has stretched our finances too much. Stupid life/government/politics/everything.

Anyway, what with preparing for Christmas and getting these books published I can’t see myself doing much writing at all in the next couple of months, so I thought I might try and do a few more of these as they take less time… sort of. So expect more in the coming months. I will see you soon – Oh and please buy my books and if possible write a nice review on Amazon and Goodreads – they really help. Ta xxx
